June is the time when most schools are closed in India for about a month for summer vacations. Hence, it is the right time for families to travel to distant places in India.

During summer vacations I used to travel to places like Rishikesh and Kasauli with my family and those are some of my beautiful childhood memories.

While enjoying the train journey to Rishikesh, summer did not feel hot back then. Sudden rainfall would often provide a respite from the heat, giving children a chance to play and have fun. I can’t help but smile as I think of those moments when I used to sail my paper boat in the rain water.

Also, singing songs with other children asking rain not to stop so that we could jump in the puddles and to sail our boats.

With the onset of monsoon weather starts changing and August to February would be a better time to travel to Rajasthan. Here is all the information needed for your Rajasthan trip.

Yes, June is a good time to visit India. India is such a big and diverse country that one can experience cold weather at one place and hot and humid at the other. In short, any time during the year is a good time to visit India. Southern part of the country experiences very hot and humid climate during June. With the month of June Monsoon starts arriving in the southern part of India, starting from Kerala.

The western ghats and north-eastern parts of India receive heavy rainfall in June.

Rajasthan and Ladakh receive the least amount of rainfall during this time. Rajasthan is extremely dry and hot during June.

What season is June in India?

Most of the regions experience summer during June in India. Monsoon arrives at the southern part around this time, starting from Kerala. The northernmost parts like Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are still pleasantly warm.

1. Almora

Dense jungles, clear rivers, temples, villages will keep you enchanted throughout your journey and stay in Almora. The homely and rustic atmosphere of this town makes it different from the other tourist swarmed hill stations.

Weather– Pleasant weather and temperature is usually between 12 to 28 degree Celsius.

2. Bir-Billing

The best place for paragliding in India, Bir-Billing, is another awesome place that can be visited during the month of June. When most of the parts of India are experiencing hot weather, this place is still bearable and you get to enjoy pleasant mornings and evenings.

Weather– Mornings and evenings are pleasant. It can get hot during day time and there are chances of occasional rainfall. Temperature ranges between 20 to 38 degree Celsius.

Things to do/Places to visit– Paragliding (if weather still permits), trekking, camping, mountain biking, visiting monasteries.

3. Auli

Truly a paradise for skiing lovers, Auli is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It offers the right amount of natural beauty and adventure to its visitors. Trishul Peak, Nandaprayag, Auli Lake are some of the picturesque sites to visit around. While skiing may not be possible during the month of June but the visitors enjoy the crisp fresh air and astonishing landscapes.

Weather– Pleasant weather with maximum daily temperature around 20 degree Celsius.

4. Dharamshala & McLeodganj

I went to Dharamsala during October but June is also a good time to visit. The place famous as the abode of his highness Dalai Lama, is a very budget friendly and convenient option for a weekend getaway.

Weather– Moderately hot weather, temperature ranges between 28 degree Celsius to 41 degree Celsius.

Things to do/Places to visit– Bhagsu fall, Bhagsunag Temple, Triund trek, Tsuglagkhang Complex

5. Darjeeling

The evergreen hill station that attracts tourists throughout the year with its tea plantations, heritage toy train, lush green scenic areas and amazing sunset at the Tiger Hill. 

Weather– Monsoon usually sets in by mid June. Weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging between 13 degree Celsius to 19 degree Celsius.

Things to do/Places to visit– Sunrise at Tiger Hill, Batasia Loop, Tea Estates, Chowrasta.

6. Srinagar

A piece of heaven on the earth, Srinagar needs no introduction for the travelers. The natural beauty of Srinagar has the capability of calming your senses and mesmerising you. 

Weather– Pleasant weather with temperature between 15 to 29 degree Celsius.

Things to do/Places to visit– Dal Lake, Shikara ride, Mughal Gardens, Hazratbal Shrine, Pari Mahal, floating market on Dal Lake, shopping.

7. Gangtok

A place that is less crowded than the usual summer hangouts like Manali, Shimla, Nainital etc, Gangtok is a very famous tourist place in Sikkim.

Weather– Between 15 and 23 degree Celsius  is the range of temperature during June in Gangtok which makes it a great time to visit.

8. Kasauli

Barely 5 hours from the maddening crowd of Delhi is the hilly paradise of Kasauli in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh.

For the people looking for nothing fancy and a peaceful, green place to spend a weekend, Kasauli might be the place. Most of the places around can be covered on foot. Small shops and stalls in the streets selling clothing, snacks, handbags, jewelry, souvenirs etc would catch your eye.

Weather– 20 to 34 degree Celsius temperature during the month of June can make it hot (but bearable) during the day time.

9. Lansdowne

Time travel into the quaint sleepy small town of Lansdowne in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. A place that is far from the buzz and humdrum of city life. Visit Lansdowne to disconnect with the world and reconnect with yourself. 

Weather– Maximum temperature during the day is around 31 degree Celsius and minimum is around 20 degree Celsius at night. There are chances of rainfall during the month of June.

10. Rishikesh

Also, Rishikesh offers many options for experiencing the adrenaline rush- River rafting, Bungee jumping, Zip lining etc.

Weather– Days are hot but it is pleasant during morning and nights. Temperature ranges between 25 to 37 degree Celsius.

11. Wayanad

Wayanad is one of the most scenic places in Kerala. The month of June brings monsoon to this place and it receives a fresh green makeover making it a worth visiting place. In its full glory after rains, the place is nothing less than a paradise for nature lovers.

Weather– Wayanad receives heavy rainfall during June and the temperature is usually around 25 degree Celsius.

13. Spiti

A great place for the adventurous souls, Spiti is a cold desert valley located in Himachal Pradesh. Its pristine lakes, high altitude villages, picturesque landscapes and remoteness attracts huge numbers of visitors every season.

Weather– Generally very pleasant weather with occasional rain showers.

15. Shillong

Valentine’s Day is the day of celebrating love. What are your plans for this Valentine’s Day? If you haven’t made any plans yet, surprise your partner with a special trip. Meghalaya is still untouched by too much of touristy crowd and if you want to experience off beat India, I would highly recommend the bamboo bridge U Mawryngkhang Trek, the double root bridge, the village where people don’t have names and the rock capital Shillong.

One of the top hill stations of India that has been blessed immensely with amazing landscapes, waterfalls, forests and lakes. Even the road journey in Shillong is an experience in itself. 16. Valley of Flowers, Chamoli

If looking for some action during the month of June, Valley of Flowers trek is the best thing to do. The weather is perfect at this time and the flowers are ready to bloom. Your senses would be taken over by the beautiful stretch of flora and their scent.

500 species of flowers welcome you in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Make sure you have the stamina to go for this trek as it is not an easy one.

Weather– It is still cool here during June with temperatures ranging from 6 to 16 degree Celsius.

17. Goa

Though June is off-season in Goa, it can be a great time to visit for the people looking to experience the peaceful Goa. Most of the shacks are closed due to the monsoon season but there are chances of getting some great deals and discounts in the ones that stay open.
